A Milestone Found in Stillness
Every now and then, a pause in the day reminds us just how far the journey has carried us
It must be the heat getting to us today, because it took a moment of shade and stillness to realise something quietly significant - it’s been seventeen years since Phil first stepped into the world of self‑employment.
Seventeen years of early starts on cold lanes, boots sinking into wet grass, tripods catching the first light, and the kind of steady, methodical work that doesn’t clamour for attention but earns trust slowly, honestly, and over time. Work shaped by weather, seasons, and the quiet rhythm of rural Somerset - the sort of days that leave you tired in the best way.
When he first set out, he didn’t have a grand plan. Just a sense of wanting to build something reliable, something rooted in doing the job properly and treating people well. That part has never shifted. If anything, it’s become the compass through every chapter.
And of course, there have been bumps along the way - some gentle, some that asked a bit more of us, and a few that reshaped the path entirely. But there have also been highs: the projects that lifted us, the clients who became familiar names, the moments of quiet pride when a drawing came together just right, or when someone trusted us with their land, their plans, or their ideas.
Looking back, it’s the collection of moments that stands out. The muddy boots left by the door. The conversations on windswept driveways. The satisfaction of accuracy. The days when the landscape felt like part of the team. The sense of building something that lasts - not flashy, not loud, but steady and true.
Seventeen years is a long stretch of road, but it’s also a story stitched together by trust, graft, gratitude, and the quiet joy of doing work that feels like yours.
Grateful doesn’t quite cover it, but it’s the closest word we have.
