ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Last updated: January 2026

Reeder Surveys is a partnership committed to protecting the environment and minimising the impact of our surveying and office‑based activities. We work across a wide range of landscapes, and we recognise our responsibility to operate in a way that respects the land, habitats and communities we encounter. Environmental performance is an integral part of how we plan, deliver and review our work.

Environmental Commitments

  • Minimising Environmental Impact On‑Site

Surveying activities are planned to reduce disturbance to land, vegetation, wildlife and watercourses. Surveyors assess environmental conditions on arrival and adapt working methods to avoid damaging sensitive habitats including farmland, marshland, coastal environments and greenfield sites. Access routes are chosen to minimise soil compaction, erosion and crop disturbance.

  • Protection of Wildlife and Biodiversity

Surveyors work with awareness of nesting birds, protected species, livestock and seasonal sensitivities. Safe distances are maintained from wildlife and livestock, and any sightings of protected species or sensitive habitats are reported to the client where appropriate.

  • Pollution Prevention and Spill Control

Equipment is maintained to prevent leaks, and fuel or oil is handled with care. Generators, if used, are positioned to avoid water contamination and excessive noise. Surveyors avoid working in conditions where pollution risks are heightened and understand basic spill‑response expectations.

  • Responsible Waste Management On‑Site

All waste - including sharps, batteries, packaging, broken equipment and marking materials - is removed from site and disposed of responsibly. Nothing is left behind, and materials that could harm wildlife or the environment are avoided wherever possible.

  • Noise and Visual Impact Reduction

Surveyors work discreetly, keeping noise to a minimum and avoiding unnecessary disturbance to residents, wildlife or livestock. Temporary markers or equipment are removed promptly after use.

  • Weather‑Aware Working

Work is planned around weather conditions to avoid contributing to erosion, rutting or water contamination. High‑risk conditions - such as storms, flooding or extreme winds - trigger adjustments to working methods or postponement.

Office‑Based Environmental Commitments

  • Efficient Use of Energy and Water

Lighting, heating and electrical equipment are used efficiently and switched off when not required. Heating is set with energy conservation in mind, and energy‑efficient appliances and lighting are prioritised. Water use is monitored and minimised where possible.

  • Paper and Resource Reduction

Digital workflows are used wherever practical to reduce paper consumption. When printing is necessary, recycled or FSC‑certified paper is used, and double‑sided printing is encouraged. Packaging is reduced, reused or recycled.

  • Sustainable Procurement and Equipment Use

Purchasing decisions consider environmental impact, favouring durable, repairable, energy‑efficient and recyclable products. Before buying new equipment, the need is assessed, and options such as renting, sharing or refurbishing are considered.

  • Environmentally Responsible Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning products and office refurbishment materials are selected for low environmental impact. Waste from maintenance or refurbishment is disposed of through licensed and appropriate channels.

  • Waste Reduction and Recycling

Recycling facilities are provided for paper, cardboard, plastics, batteries and electronic waste. Office waste is monitored, and employees are encouraged to reduce consumption and reuse materials where possible.

  • Sustainable Travel and Remote Working

Unnecessary travel is avoided through route planning, remote communication and digital collaboration. When travel is required, fuel‑efficient or low‑emission vehicles are preferred, and vehicles are maintained to maximise efficiency.

Compliance and Continuous Improvement

  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance

Reeder Surveys complies with all relevant environmental legislation, industry standards and client‑specific environmental requirements.

  • Monitoring and Review

Environmental performance is monitored regularly, with quarterly review points to assess progress and identify improvements. Environmental considerations are incorporated into business decisions, and the policy is reviewed annually or sooner if legislation, operations or environmental risks change.

  • Training and Awareness

Environmental awareness is embedded into day‑to‑day working practices. Employees receive guidance on sustainable behaviours, pollution prevention and responsible resource use.

Responsibility

Overall responsibility for environmental performance and compliance is shared between the business partners, Philip Reeder and Danielle Reeder, who jointly ensure that the policy aligns with legislation, industry standards and the values of the partnership. Together, they approve the policy, allocate resources for its implementation and review environmental performance.

Day‑to‑day operational responsibility is shared between the partners according to their roles within the business. This includes coordinating environmental initiatives, overseeing waste management and procurement practices, supporting surveyors with field‑based environmental considerations, and ensuring that review cycles and training requirements are met.

All employees are responsible for upholding the commitments in this policy. Surveyors must follow environmentally responsible working methods on site, report environmental concerns or incidents promptly, and contribute to continuous improvement. Office‑based staff must support sustainable resource use, waste reduction and responsible procurement in day‑to‑day operations.

Environmental responsibilities are communicated during induction and reinforced through ongoing training, supervision and review.
